The short answer
Use Ethernet when the Telo can sit near your router. It removes one wireless link from the call path and is usually the least complicated setup. Use the Telo Air 2's built-in Wi-Fi when the router is in an inconvenient room and the phone needs to live somewhere else.

How to set up Ethernet
- Activate the Telo using Ooma's setup process.
- Connect the Telo's INTERNET port to an available LAN port on your router.
- Connect the power adapter and allow the Telo to download any updates.
- Wait for the Ooma logo to turn solid blue.
- Connect an ordinary telephone or cordless-phone base to the PHONE port and place test calls.
If the router and phone belong in different rooms, a longer Ethernet cable is often more dependable than adding a wireless bridge.
How to set up Wi-Fi
Ooma's setup app can connect a Telo Air 2 to the home network during activation. Place the unit where the Wi-Fi signal is already good—not at the far edge of coverage—then connect the phone and wait for the blue status light.
If setup fails, temporarily move the Telo closer to the router. Confirm the network name and password, finish any available firmware update, and then try the intended location again.
What if the phone must be in a weak-signal room?
First improve Wi-Fi coverage or use a wired mesh node. An extender with an Ethernet port may also bridge the connection, but the model must support wired clients in extender or bridge mode. Our Wi-Fi extender guide explains what to verify before buying.
Remember the power path
